What is Yoga?


Yoga is a 5000-year-old physical and mental practice which initially originated in northern India. 


It is a union of practicing meditation, physical postures, breathing techniques, and some spiritual practices.


Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Bikram, Jivamukti, Power, Sivananda, and Yin are types of yoga. 


When a male performance yoga practice, he is called “Yogi.” And when a female performance yoga practice, she is called “Yogini.”


After many years of origination, It was introduced to the western side of the world by some Indian Yoga Gurus. 


In other countries, yoga is supposed to be one of the types of exercises. But in India, it has always been more about spiritual discipline than just physical practice. 


But when it comes to benefits, it helps in both the ways, Spiritual and Physical. 


Benefits Of Yoga 


Increased Happiness


A study conducted by researchers at Boston University found that Yoga Practice is associated with Brain Gaba Levels. And let me tell you that when those levels get decreased, you tend to feel depressed. But the exact opposite happens when it gets increased.


Yoga increases the Brain Gaba Levels, and you tend to feel happier and joyful.

Increased Flexibility


Yoga practice includes body stretching. And we all know that stretching helps us to become more flexible. 


Upward Facing Dog, Downward Facing Dog, Child’s Pose, Asana, these yoga poses are famous for increasing flexibility.

Lower Blood Pressure


High blood pressure is the main reason people get a heart attack. Though practicing yoga regularly, lowers blood pressure, and reduces the risk of a heart attack.


It also keeps you away from all the other heart diseases. 


Reduces Stress & Anxiety


As I said at the beginning of this article, Yoga includes spiritual discipline, meditation, which helps in reducing these both things.


While performing yoga practices which involves breathing methods, It quickly reduces stress in your nervous system. It modulates the stress response system and reduces anxiety too. 


Whenever you perform such sort of practices, It enhances your calmness. Makes you less reactive to anger and stress issues. With the increased vibes of peace and happiness, your stress and anxiety get decreased.


Helps In Weight Loss


Performing planks, triangle, head-stand, shoulder-stand, and bow can burn calories much faster. And results in weight loss.
